My one and only rant about Healthcare debate

Wikipedia: The term 'single payer' refers to funding and does not imply a socialized medicine system. A socialized medical system is one "in which all health personnel and health facilities, including doctors and hospitals, work for the government and draw salaries from the government," an example being the U.S. Veterans Administration, while U.S. Medicare is a single payer system which is not socialized medicine.

So let me get this straight: It's okay for us disabled vets who've served our country.. .and it's okay for our old people who have paid into the system with years and years of taxes... but it's not okay for the WASPs.

We are the richest country in the world, yet our children and working poor go without care. How disgraceful. We are a so called Christian Nation, yet we can't help our own. How disgraceful. We are spending insurance dollars on Viagra so old men can get boners while little babies can't get basic healthcare. How disgraceful.

My friend, who lives in Arizona, and I have been talking about this quite a bit lately. Apparently there is a commercial in the US that has a woman saying her private health care is the ONLY reason she survived breast cancer and if American had public healthcare, 300 000 people a year would die because of it.

*looks around* I live in Canada. When my cousin broke her arm, her mother didn't have to take out a second mortgage on her house to pay to have it set. OHIP took care of it. All one has to do is walk into a hospital and that person is fixed, without having to flash their credit cards around.

I believe that health CARE implies that it is one's duty to CARE for the sick and dying because CARING for people is what you do. It's not meant to be that nurses and doctors only care when someone can afford hundreds of thousands of dollars for them to care. That's a job. I don't mean to say that American health care professionals don't care, but it is the system they are put into that does not allow them to care. People have to get paid, yes, but I would rather forego payment and save a dying person than let them die in front of me because they can't afford for me to look at them.

I just don't see how apparently more people will die because of public health care. I guess the right-wing conservative Christians skipped over that chapter about "love thy neighbour" and all that jazz.

Seriously, I am with Aggie on this one. If its good enough for Vets, and for Dependents, then why aint it good enough for these jackasses. I guess they be too good for our kind.

But then any movement that names itself after a scrotum, or rubbing a scrotum on a person's face, in an act of animalistic dominance is not what I would consider a valid expression of mature political identity.
